System Description:  The TSM provides a flexible unit level switch that replaces legacy TRI-TAC switches (SB-3614, SB-3865, AN/TTC-42) with more robust voice/data switching, data transport, and bandwidth management capabilities. The TSM consists of four functional suites of equipment mounted in transit cases: 1) the DEOS, 2) the RSAM, 3) the DITS, and 4) the DITS Heavy. TSM will maintain USMC joint interoperability as the other services transition to COTS switching technologies. The modular design of the TSM provides the capability to add or delete equipment without adversely affecting existing communications architectures. A further goal is to be capable of easily incorporating new communications technology as it evolves.

Lifecycle Configuration Control:
Initial Fielding: 2007
Quantity Fielded: 129 DITS; 221 DEOS; 854 RSAM
Warranty: 3 year
Logistics Support Concept: 3 levels (O-F-S)
Upgrades: CV-MCU2, KIV-7M
Variations: DITS Promina 400/800
Legacy Equipment Substitute: AN/TTC-42 & SB-3865/SB-3614
Lifecycle Status: Sustainment
Expected Replacement System: TBD
Expected Replacement Timeframe: TBD
Requirement:
Stated Need: CD&I LoC Upgrade 37 DITS systems to Promina 800s.
Capability Production Document (CPD): CPD dated Dec 27 2007.
Concept of Employment:  TSM will be employed at all levels of the MAGTF to effect voice and limited data switching capability. The modular design will allow units to implement the system according to the mission needs. The equipment will be operated and maintained by MSC, MEU, MEB, and MEF communications personnel. The number of TSM packages deployed to a theater will be commensurate with the size of the operation/contingency. The TSM equipment will be fielded at all levels of the MAGTF.
Operational Impact:  COTS-based circuit switching within the Marine Corps allows for reduction of legacy equipment, improved interoperability, and more flexible modernization choices.
Risks:
Cost: Medium – This is a high-dollar value program
which will require continued support from the advocates to maintain the funding line.
Schedule: Low – Consists of commercial equipment similar to technology already fielded in other systems.
Performance: Low – Readily available COTS equipment. Technology similar to other fielded systems.

Status:  TSM ADM dated 07 Mar 2007 authorizing the Program Office to field 129 DEOS, 387 RSAM and 128 DITS in support of urgent and compelling request. TSM ADM for FRP/FD/MS C was granted in Feb 2008. Ceiling increased in Aug 2008 per 202k grow-the-force AAO increase. Promina 800 upgrade for 37 DITS systems approved in Jan 2009.
