Quantico's history began in 1654 when the first land patents were given to English settlers. During the Revolutionary War, land and water routes were used heavily by both General George Washington and General Rochambeau's troops with over 72 vessels calling Quantico's harbor their home.
The War of 1812 brought British troops to Quantico's shores in 1814. In August 1816, Quantico was known as Evansport. During the Civil War, The Pointe became the site of Confederate gun batteries protecting Manassas Junction to the west and Fredericksburg to the south.
The Point became a shipyard before World War I named Shipping Point at the Quantico Shipyard, it was one of the main industries in the area before World War I. In 1916, it was officially listed as Potomac.
This village became Quantico because of the location to the Quantico creek and the promotional efforts of the Quantico Shipping Company. In 1917, the U.S. Marines arrived and permanently put Quantico on the map and made it known around the world.
On 1 July 1941, Captain J. P. Pollard, U.S. Navy, became the first Commanding Officer of The Point. The Hospital was erected in 1939 as a dispensary for Marine Barracks personnel at a cost of almost $1 million.
The Hospital moved to their new clinic location during August 2000. Marine Corps Systems Command
moved into renovated buildings in 2003.
